Best Coffee Maker with Grinder (Grind and Brew)

There’s no getting around it. Fresh ground beans make a far superior brew than using pre-ground coffee. The trouble is that a manual coffee grinder requires time and effort to use, and electric grinders are pricey.

By buying a grind and brew coffee maker, you’ll have freshly ground beans and hot coffee at the touch of a button. Here’s what you need to know about buying one of these machines and our picks for the best coffee maker with grinder.

Espresso or drip

Before we get to the grinders, you first need to consider what kind of coffee you like to drink.

For many Americans, drip coffee’s clean, smooth taste is the only way to start the day. Drip coffee machines have a lot going for them too. They’re cheaper, much easier to operate, and can brew a big batch of coffee in one go.

But if you prefer to drink cafe-style drinks like lattes, cappuccinos, or even a simple ristresso, you’re going to need an espresso machine. You will need to spend a lot more, and unless you opt for a superautomatic machine, the brewing process will be more hands-on. On the plus side, you get a much richer brew and more control over the taste. Most espresso machines also include a steam wand for frothing milk.

Grinder type

The two main types of the coffee grinder are blade and burr grinders. Blade grinders are what you’ll find in small domestic grinders often sold as “coffee and spice grinders.” As the name suggests, these are much cheaper to produce, but they chop coffee beans rather than grind them. The result is inconsistent, with no way of adjusting the fineness.

Burr grinders come as either conical burrs or flat burrs, and each has its pros and cons (2). Unless you’re using a machine in a cafe setting, these differences aren’t going to impact you – the main thing to remember is that the burr grinder is preferable to the blade grinder.

You might have heard that ceramic grinders are superior to metal ones, but it’s not something you need to worry about for a home coffee maker and grinder.

In reality, there is little difference between ceramic and metal burrs.

Perfect Daily Grind

Ceramic burr grinders do, however, tend to be more expensive and are more likely to be found in standalone grinders or high-end machines.

The Best All in One Coffee Machines with Grinder in 2024

Now that you know a bit more about what to look for, it’s time to go shopping. Here are some of the best coffee makers with grinders on the market.

1. Breville BDC650BSS Grind Control Coffee Maker – Best Overall

Breville BDC650BSS

Specifications

  • Type of machine: Drip

  • Dimensions: 12.5 x 8.5 x 16.3 inches
  • Capacity: 60 oz
  • Grinder type: Stainless steel flat burr
  • Grind settings: 6

Breville released the Grind Control in 2015 to replace the Breville YouBrew. If you were a fan of the original, don’t fret. The Breville BDC650BSS maintains many of YouBrew’s innovative features while improving the grinder.

What’s so impressive about these bean-to-cup coffee machines is the total flexibility when it comes to serving size. A carafe is the standard serving for a drip machine, but the more advanced will offer half-carafe and sometimes single-cup options. With the Breville Grind control, you can choose any amount between 2 and 12 cups (5 ounces each).

If you switch to the single cup setting, here, you can adjust your cup size to anything between 8 and 20 oz. Once you have your serving size selected, you can choose from eight different strength settings.

The main upgrade comes with the built-in burr grinder.

You now have the option to select from one of six grind sizes to suit different beans.

Thanks to the LCD control panel, despite all of the customizations available, the Grind Control isn’t complicated to use. Here you’ll also find other great features that make life easier, including the water reservoir level and a countdown timer to tell you when your coffee will be ready.

The downside to all these goodies is that the Breville Grind Control is large and heavy, clocking in at 16 pounds. So just check that you have the space before you click “add to cart.”

2. Black And Decker 12-Cup Mill And Brew – Budget Pick

Black And Decker 12-Cup Mill And Brew

Specifications

  • Type of machine: Drip

  • Dimensions: 10 x 13.5 x 15.5 inches
  • Capacity: 60 oz
  • Grinder type: Blade
  • Grind settings: 1

If money is your main concern when shopping for a grind and brew coffee maker, then this machine from Black and Decker will be your best option. It won’t wow serious coffee lovers in terms of taste, but it does have enough features to make this machine incredibly convenient.

The discount price is made possible because the Black and Decker Mill and Brew uses a blade grinder rather than a burr grinder. There’s also no separate bean hopper. Instead, the grinder is built into the filter basket. This gives you one less part to clean and means you need to add beans before every brew. You also have the option to switch the grinder off if you’d instead fill the basket with pre-ground coffee.

The grind settings feature on the control panel doesn’t relate to grind size but rather the number of cups you’ll be brewing. The options here are 4, 6, 8, 10, or 12 cups, but you’ll also need to manually add the correct amount of beans. If you want a stronger coffee, you can add extra beans or use the machine’s strength control with regular, strong, or bold options.

User-friendly features include:

  • An adjustable shut-off time of up to 2 hours.
  • 24-hour programming.
  • A Sneak-A-Cup® feature.
  • A Freshbrew timer that reminds you how long your brewed coffee has been sitting.

3. Tchibo Fully Automatic Coffee Machine – Best Value for Money

Tchibo Fully Automatic Coffee Machine

Specifications

  • Type of machine: Espresso

  • Dimensions: 7 x 12.4 x 15.6 inches
  • Capacity: 37 oz
  • Grinder type: Stainless steel burr
  • Grind settings: 5

If you’ve been looking at options for a coffee machine with a grinder, you’ll probably notice that there’s a big difference in price between drip machines and espresso machines. But the Tchibo is here to gracefully bridge the gap here, offering an all-in-one espresso machine for less than some of the drip coffee makers available.

There’s a lot to love about this machine, starting with the design. It’s a minimalist, compact machine that’s suitable for small spaces and very simple to use.

There are no buttons or dials to contend with, just a slick touchscreen with all your brewing options.

This is a single-serve machine, but you do get the choice of three drinks: espresso (2 oz), regular coffee (6 oz), and large coffee (8 oz). These options will adjust the ratios and volume of your coffee, but you can also change the preset sizes for these drinks or hit the “boost” button for a little extra strength.

You adjust grinding by a dial located inside the bean hopper but can only do it while the grinder is on. The bean hopper holds 5 ounces, which should be enough for solo coffee drinkers, but can be extended to a 10-ounce capacity if you have company.

4. Cuisinart Coffeemaker DGB-550BKP1 – Best for Small Spaces

Cuisinart Coffeemaker DGB-550BKP1

Specifications

  • Type of machine: Drip

  • Dimensions: 7.48 x 11.2 x 15.16 inches
  • Capacity: 60 oz
  • Grinder type: Blade
  • Grind settings: 1

As the slimmest machine on our list, the Cuisinart DGB-550BKP1 is a blessing for anyone with limited counter space but still wants a 12-cup coffee maker. The machine is also small on price, with a range of features that make it excellent value for money.

For a whole pot of coffee, with the machine grinding and brewing automatically. Alternatively, you can set an automatic start time up to 24 hours in advance. There’s a 1-4 cup setting that will ensure the optimal flavor is maintained when brewing smaller amounts and a Brew Pause feature if you get yourself a single cup of coffee before the brewing cycle ends. The Grind and Brew is BPA-free.

Although it has plastic parts, it won’t be leaching any harmful chemicals into your cup of coffee.

The one downside here is the blade grinder, which, to be fair, is what you would expect at this price point. You can’t adjust it, so you might need to experiment with coffee beans to find a brand that works well with the fineness you’ll get from the machine.

5. Cuisinart DGB-900BC 12-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker – Best Drip Machine

Cuisinart DGB-900BC 12-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker

Specifications

  • Type of machine: Drip

  • Dimensions: 8.3 x 11.6 x 16.3 inches
  • Capacity: 60 oz
  • Grinder type: Stainless steel flat burr
  • Grind settings: 1

If you have some room in your budget, you can upgrade to the Cuisinart Cuisinart DGB-900BC Grind and Brew. This will get you a coffee maker with a thermal carafe and a burr grinder.

A burr grinder will give you greater consistency than a blade grinder, and with this machine, it’s also much quieter and much faster. As with the Black and Decker, the grind control settings are for the number of cups, not the fineness. The Cuisinart DBG-900BC is preset for a medium grind, which is considered optimal for drip coffee.

Double-wall insulated stainless steel thermal carafe will keep your coffee hot for hours. With no hotplate required, the machine automatically switches off after brewing making it kinder to the environment (and your wallet).

For brewing, you have the choice of mild, medium, or strong coffee. This will adjust the amount of beans ground in combination with the cup selection – from 2 to 12 cups of coffee. With the 2 and 4 cup settings, the coffee maker will adjust the brew settings so that the quality of the coffee is maintained.

6. Capresso 465 CoffeeTeam with Conical Burr Grinder – Best Thermal

Capresso 465 CoffeeTeam with Conical Burr Grinder

Specifications

  • Type of machine: Drip

  • Dimensions: 9 x 9.5 x 15.5 inches
  • Capacity: 50 oz
  • Grinder type: Stainless steel conical burr
  • Grind settings: 5

If you’re the kind of person that likes to brew once and sip all day, then a thermal carafe is much better than a glass carafe with a hotplate. With a thermal carafe, you can keep your coffee hot for hours at a time without any detrimental effects on the flavor (3).

The Capresso’s vacuum sealed insulated stainless steel carafe will meet all your keep-warm needs, but it’s not the only thing we like about this machine. It’s also got some great versatility when it comes to adjusting your brew.

The stainless steel colonial burrs start with the grinder, and you can adjust it to five different settings by twisting the hopper. The next step is to choose how you want to brew, from 2-10 cups of coffee. Finally, the “Aroma” button allows you to choose from one of three strength settings, with each setting adding 10 seconds to the grind cycle. With maximum strength on the 10 cup settings, the machine will grind for 45 seconds (4), which is a lot of beans.

7. Breville BES870XL Barista Express Espresso Machine – Best for Espresso

Breville BES870XL Barista Express Espresso Machine

Specifications

  • Type of machine: Espresso

  • Dimensions: 12.5 x 12.6 x 13.1 inches
  • Capacity: 67 oz
  • Grinder type: Stainless steel conical burr
  • Grind settings: 16

The Breville Barista Express gets a lot of hype, and for a good reason. It’s a lot more expensive than a drip machine, but it’s incredible value for an espresso coffee maker with a grinder and frother. It’s also a machine that suits both beginners and coffee connoisseurs.

It would be hard to pull a better shot of espresso with any less effort. The Breville Barista Express is among the more user-friendly espresso machines on the market…

Business Insider

The preset options will get you a great shot of espresso, requiring just the grind size, grind amount, and the choice of a double or single shot to get started. Breville has also included pressurized portafilter baskets to help you get that much sought-after crema (5).

For the more experienced, switch the standard portafilter baskets and play around with the brew temperature, preset volume for an even better cup of coffee. You’ve also got an impressive 18 grind settings, which should be enough to get the most out of any coffee beans you care to choose. (This is where you see the value in paying more than some cheaper grind and brew coffee makers like the Brera).

8. DeLonghi ESAM3300 Magnifica Digital – Best Splurge

Delonghi ESAM

Specifications

  • Type of machine: Espresso

  • Dimensions: 11 x 15.3 x 14.4 inches
  • Capacity: 60 oz
  • Grinder type: Stainless steel conical burr
  • Grind settings: 13

For espresso coffee with all the convenience of a drip machine, you’ll need to upgrade to a super-automatic like the DeLonghi Magnifica. It’s the most expensive machine on our list, but it’s a long way from the price of other coffee makers in this class.

Unlike the Breville Barista Express, this is a true bean to cup machine. The stainless steel conical burrs grind your coffee beans directly into the built-in portafilter via its Tubeless System, so you don’t have to lift a finger. You can select single shot, double shot espresso, or hot water from the control panel if you want an Americano. Rotary dials adjust cup size and brew strength, so you can always see what setting you’ve chosen.

If you want a cafe-style drink like a latte, you will have to froth the milk yourself. However, DeLonghi’s patented Cappuccino System is designed to get you the perfect mix of foam and milk, even if you’re a newbie.

See the full list of Magnifica’s features, read our detailed review.

9. Gevi 10-Cup Drip Coffee Maker with Grinder – Most Versatile

Gevi 10-Cup Drip Coffee Maker with Grinder

Specifications

  • Type of machine: Drip

  • Dimensions: 10.2 x 8.3 x 16.9 inches
  • Capacity: 50.7 oz
  • Grinder type: Stainless steel conical burr
  • Grind settings: 8

For anyone that wants to experiment with the different variables that go into brewing coffee, the Gevi Drip Coffee Maker with Grinder is for you.

Let’s start with the grinder. With eight different fineness settings, this has the most of any drip coffee maker on our list. While drip makers aren’t as sensitive to grind size as espresso machines, you can really play with the different characteristics of different beans. When used in combination with the other settings, it can also get you the strength of coffee that you desire.

From the control panel, you have the choice of three strength settings and coffee amounts from 2-10 cups, both of which will adjust the amount of ground coffee that goes into your brew.

The Gevi also offers a 24-hour programmable start time and an auto shut off after two hours.

The Verdict

Take it from us. Having freshly ground coffee is going to change the way you experience your morning brew. We think the best coffee maker with a grinder is the Breville Grind Control in terms of features and performance. It’s not cheap, but with the adjustable cup sizes, variable grind settings, and ease of use, we’d say it’s worth the investment.

FAQs

No, there isn’t a Keurig coffee maker with a grinder, as these machines are generally designed to be used with K-Cups. Although some machines allow you to brew reusable K-Cups or ground coffee, you need to have your grinder or use pre-ground coffee.

No, there is no SCAA-certified self-grinding coffee maker. The rigorous testing process means that only a minimal number of machines reach the Gold Cup Standard. In addition, the SCAA only tests drip coffee makers and not home espresso machines (6).

A super-automatic espresso machine is one with a built-in grinder that will grind the beans, tamp the portafilter and pull a shot for you. Most also steam your milk. This is different from automatic machines, which require you to grind and tamp your coffee and froth the milk.
